Providing human-readable examples is a nice touch. The user doesn’t have to think about the difference between mm/dd/yy and dd/mm/yy.
It’s interesting to note that both date format (which is really locale-dependent) and time format (which is a preference) can be treated in the same way.

Many people outside North America are unfamiliar with the game of baseball. They are likely to get the general meaning – that it’s something to do with protection or having a range of options available (at least, that’s how I interpret it). And the expression does have a high degree of currency even in non-baseball nations. But it does convey an impression that I’m dealing with a US organisation, not a global one.
Does that matter? Perhaps not.
